During the process of getting a new set of dentures, there is always a short period between having any teeth extracted, having a cast made, and getting your custom set of dentures back from the lab. During that time, no one wants to walk around with no teeth and we wouldn’t want you to! Eating, speaking, and smiling are all important parts of maintaining a healthy and happy life.
In order to help you maintain your health and happiness until your custom dentures come in, we use a treatment called immediate dentures. These are temporary dentures that are prepared for you in the same visit that you have the preparation work done.
How Do Immediate Dentures Work?
Just like a regular set of dentures, immediate dentures sit comfortably against the gums, and can be held in place with adhesive. Because these are not custom made to suit your mouth, they won’t be quite as comfortable or as attractive as your true dentures. But they do offer two important benefits:
- Maintain the ability to eat, speak, and smile
- Reduce swelling due to any extractions or preparation for dentures
Don’t Worry!
Many hear not custom and immediately think they will end up with really ugly dentures that look ridiculous. Don’t worry! Immediate dentures are still adjusted to fit your mouth properly, and we won’t let you leave with something that won’t be functional for eating and speaking. It is our goal that you are never without teeth, but we know that you won’t wear something if it hurts or doesn’t work. Therefore, we strive to ensure that immediate dentures are comfortable and pleasing.
